Caravane Tighmert 2021

artists gathering

After the special edition of 2020, conditioned by de pandemic and the fire, we tried to recover a kind of normality in 2021.

Every year we see an increase in interest from artists and researches in our gathering. This time we received 31 applications for 6 places, because 6 other artists were repeating the participation.

We are still treating the information produced, but you can watch some videos we think they are interesting. The first one is a conversation about the impact of this kind of activities on the population, after 7 editions. It was important to listen to Ahmed (co-founder of Caravane Tighmert) as he lives in the oasis and he can observe the evolution of children and jeune people working and collaborating with us.

The second one is an interview with Mohamed Zarragane, a young artist from Guelmim that came, in 2017, just to meet the artists because his teacher (Tayeb Nadif, an artist that participated in the first edition) told him it would help him to decide if he wanted to be an artist. Since then, he always come, helping and organising workshops but overall, learning from the artists. He tried twice the entrance exam for the Fine Arts School in Tetouan, but he failed. Now, he thinks it is not worth it to come to the university just to have a diplome because with Caravane Tighmert, it is the Fine Arts School that come to the oasis.

For the first time, we hosted a poet, Hakim Ali Shahidi, from the Comoros island but living in Paris. He was interested by regional poetry, related to Hassaniya culture, and he had the opportunity to learn from Med Chafaai, a young poet from Tighmert that has always helped us with the organisation of the gathering.

As usual, we like to talk to everybody about their experiences during the event, so artists and member of the team could exposed what they liked most and what we should change.

These epilogues help us every year to improve our proposal, besides, they become an important part of our digital archive, as we could see with the selection made by curator Fatima-Zahra Lakrissa for the exhibition hold at Le 18 Marrakech, À l’Épreuve du Tamis, during the Contemporary African Art Fair in 2019.
