NOMADS OF THE MOROCCAN DESERT

by Carlos Perez Marin

A series of interviews to a nomad of the Moroccan desert, Mokhtar, who used to go to Mali with caravans before the borders were closed.

Mokhtar is a nomad from the oasis of M'hamid, Zagora (Morocco). He used to go from M'hamid to Timbuktu by walk, until the borders were closed. It took him 45 days to cover de distance between the two towns. During these travels he had lots of experiences and now he tells us some of the stories he has lived.

You can find a French translation of Mokhtar's storytelling made by Ibrahim Sbai on this link:

Mokhtar (a real wise of the desert) explains the itineraries in his caravans from M'hamid El Ghizlane to Merzouga (10 days), to Guelmim (15 days) and to Timbuktu in Mali (45 days).
